We reached our funding goal in two days! Thank you so much to all the people who backed the It’s Complicated Kickstarter, and thanks to everyone who shared the link to the project page — we could not have done it without your social media support, and we’re so happy that you’re excited about the project too.
We will be allowing the campaign to run its course for the next 28 days, so anyone who wants to preorder the zines can still do so; any extra money, after costs of design, printing, and mailing, will go toward spreading the message in other ways. We envision It’s Complicated as a cultural conversation that extends beyond the zines or even the book.
Depending on how much we raise in the end, excess funds will go to working with a web designer to create an It’s Complicated website, subsidizing design and printing costs for future zines, and/or covering expenses related to the upcoming book project. We would also like to begin saving to pay our fantastic contributors, who have so enthusiastically embraced this idea and the hard work it entails with no promise of payment. The bottom line is that all of the proceeds from this Kickstarter will be reinvested into the project.
But in the interest of spreading the Kickstarter love, we also wanted to bring your attention to another feminist project that we would love to see successful — Aunt Lute Books is seeking funding to print a 4th edition of Gloria Anzaldúa’s life-changing hybrid work Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza. Read more about the text, and about Anzaldúa’s work and life, at Aunt Lute’s project page.
